Being of that kind of mind, the Japan Suspicious Person Information Centre (JASPIC) conducted a seven-month study on “perverts” based on reports from police and municipalities. The Japanese term here is fushinsha, a “suspicious person.” This, though, does not refer to spies or would-be thieves, but voyeurs, flashers and chikan (gropers).

JASPIC reports that 11,607 incidents were officially recorded from March to October this year, and of these 4,487 — around 40% — were in the vicinity of train stations.

Naturally, there are a lot of stations in Japan and most of the 4,487 are spread over the whole nation.

The following 25 stations, however, were identified as the most notorious for “suspicious persons” because they got a whopping nine reports each.

The ranking of stations and prefectures has provoked both amusement and outrage online.

The 34-year-old Sola Aoi has got married, she announced on Instagram to her army of fans. Proving once again that the best way to get girls is to be a musician, her lucky new husband is the Japanese DJ Non.

They look like a relaxed, regular couple. It begs the question, though: did he spend years getting off on her AV before experiencing the real thing? And at the risk of being crude: does he mind going where so many other men have already gone before, not to mention hundreds of thousands have fantasized about going? Evidently not.

In addition to the wedding bells, from Sola’s hints we can probably expect the pitter-patter of tiny feet soon…

Aoi wrote on her blog on January 2nd: “I’ve always wanted to get married. I love kids and it’s always dreamed of starting a family… My husband is neither handsome nor rich, but he has removed all of my unease about my career in adult films.”

The marriage has garnered some mainstream media coverage. As always, we are amused to see Aoi labelled a “sexy actress” — the usual Japanese media euphemism for AV performer.

We wish the new couple all the happiness they deserve in their new life together.

Evidently in response to the coercion scandals that have hit Japanese pornography recent, the Adult Video Human Rights Organization has proposed a new guideline for AV production and distribution companies allowing actresses to halt the sale of their films or use of footage of their videos after they have been on sale for five years.

The guideline will come into effect from April 1st, 2018 — not because it is April Fool’s Day but because April marks the start of the new fiscal year in Japan. There is no government or state pressure in regards to the guideline, so it is unsure how many, if any, companies will comply.

Naturally this is a rather nominal move for the performers involved, if they are genuinely concerned about their pasts catching up with them when they decide to retire from AV. The majority of AV releases sell relatively few DVDs and are actually withdrawn from the commercial market after a while, though they may still be listed on retailer websites. Only a few become long-running bestsellers. And then there are clips and images online as well as pirate versions floating around beyond the control of anyone. Quite what practical difference this guideline can make is debatable, though it might offer performers a stronger mental sense of security when considering their future.

As shown by the recent case of Sola Aoi, the most high-profile AV star in recent years, it is possible to build a successful career after leaving porn and even find marital happiness with someone outside the industry.

In an effort to increase transparency between producers and performers, letters of intent and other related documents for performer contracts will also now be stored by AVAN, the new AV performer rights’ group formed by former porn actress Mariko Kawana.

Enako is one of the most popular (and diminutive) cosplayers in Japan. Her legions of male fans will do a lot and pay a lot to take her photographs, buy her merchandise, and admire her latest poses.

And now they can get a little bit closer to their goddess. Or at least, they could.

At the December edition of Comiket (Comic Market) in Tokyo, Enako’s own (almost life-sized) dakimakura hug pillow was on sale at the Animate Group Booth.

The dakimakura was priced at the reasonable ¥12,000 before tax, available on on a first-come, first-served basis. The pillow measures a 160cm (5.3 feet), which is actually a little taller than the star herself, who is a mere 153cm (5 feet) in height.

Omotenashi indeed. Japan is still losing the fight against sexually transmitted diseases and infections, it seems, judging from the last syphilis figures that were announced at the start of the year.

In an uncanny, somewhat depressing repetition of a similar report from January last year, the syphilis epidemic shows no signs of slowing. In fact, it’s getting worse.

The number of syphilis patients reported in 2017 topped 5,000 — the first time it had hit such a level since records began.

The National Institute of Infectious Diseases has revealed that 2017 featured the worst data since comparable data became available in 1999 (which is late in its own right, perhaps suggesting how the problem has been allowed to grow through neglect). The numbers are worst for women in their twenties and, in terms of areas, Tokyo was responsible for 30% of the reported patients, though statistically this shouldn’t be surprising.

The Tokyo metropolitan government has responded with more training for doctors and extra funding for free syphilis tests from April, hoping that if women are encouraged to get tested they can contain the spread. While the media has echoed the research center’s line that the cause behind the rise is not known, the real cause is surely simple enough, as with all sexually transmitted diseases: people don’t use contraception. It’s a shame, of course, since Japan has some great condoms.

As of December 17th, 2017, the total number of syphilis patients in Japan was 5,534 — an increase of over 1,000 since 2016. Tokyo reported the largest number at 1,705, followed by Osaka Prefecture at 788 (quite a number when we consider that Osaka is so much smaller than Tokyo), Aichi Prefecture at 325, and Kanagawa Prefecture at 312.

Apparently the authorities are worried about the impact on the 2020 Olympics, when the city will host thousands of horny athletes and staff members eager to hook up with locals or each other. A lot of sex goes on in the Olympic Village after the competitions are over. If things don’t get under control, the visitors may go home with another kind of medal entirely.

Japanese movies rarely have sex scenes of note, it must be said, so the good ones stand out.

Japanese television is pretty tame, the occasional sexy scene not withstanding. But AbemaTV, an online streaming channel, has different standards.

Last year it broadcast its first original drama series, Tokumei Kakaricho Tadano Hitoshi, showing us Shoko Takahashi (formerly the gravure idol Shoko Takasaki) and Yua Mikami (ex-SKE48 idol Momona Kito) in the buff. All right, they are two of the top AV stars in Japan today, so we’ve already seen everything they have to offer and more. But it’s still nice to see a Japanese TV drama with some naked flesh for once.

The good news for 2018 is that the Tokumei Kakaricho Tadano Hitoshi, which is based on the manga by Kimio Yanagisawa, is back for a new series — and it has Shoko and Yua in it again in all their nude glory.

Unfortunately Yua Mikami isn’t in it this time, but the AV idol Moe Amatsuka is — playing, no surprises, a porn star. Yes, her acting is very natural.

Moe Amatsuka has a nice scene riding someone, though we don’t see much beyond some shots of her breasts. Shoko Takahashi is shown in an erotically lit love hotel with a lucky guy as well as stripping for a bored-looking older man.

Being born at the tail end of the Showa era, we’ve always had a sense of nostalgia for those pre-digital days.

In addition to a soft spot for old pink films, we also love to browse retro erotica and vintage porn. In past posts we’ve looked at 1960s nude shoots and love hotels.

The up-and-coming gravure idol and actress Riho Yoshioka is one of the stars of the new TBS TV drama Kimi ga Kokoro ni Sumitsuita (You Always Inhabit My Heart).

An adaptation of the manga by Kirin Tendo, the 24-year-old Yoshioka has a semi-nude scene that is currently setting portions of the Japanese web on fire. In it, Yoshioka is shown undressing and revealing her naked back. Strangely, she is then left standing nude in front of a bunch of guys who show no interest.

Unfortunately this is a drama on a regular Japanese TV channel, so you don’t really see anything — AbemaTV, which will happily feature porn stars shedding their clothes

Nonetheless, we like the idea of men sitting around, watching Riho undress, and barely bothering to look up. Now that’s what we call verisimilitude.

Since there are so few mainstream films released in Japan with decent nude scenes, we have to look back at past ones for entertainment.

We were recently marveling again at the busty delights of gravure idol and actress Megumi Kagurazaka in Guilty of Romance.

The 2011 film was directed by Sion Sono, who later made the sensible decision to marry Kagurazaka (despite quite an age gap of some twenty years).

The film is particularly worth revisiting for its sex scenes. Megumi Kagurazaka has multiple nude scenes and naked sex scenes throughout the film, mostly showing off her very ample chest. Be sure to see it!

Sono is much loved by the foreign critics and directs several films a year. One of those was the pink film Antiporno in which ex-AKB48 idol Ami Tomite stripped off.

AKB48 is said to be phasing out swimsuit and lingerie photo shoots for its young members, perhaps out of fear of foreign accusations of peddling lolicon and child pornography as Tokyo prepares to for the 2020 Olympics.

There is speculation that the Akihabara-inspired supergroup, which builds followings for its female idols through swimsuit and underwear shoots as well as scantily clad music videos, is taming down its tactics.

Now members of high school age will apparently not be asked to reveal their flesh during photo shoots, it is reported.

A large proportion of AKB48’s members are under the age of adulthood in Japan (20 years old), which has added to the controversy over the sexualized lyrics and photo shoots. This effectively makes them junior idols (chidols). AKB has faced accusations of lolicon and even child pornography in the past, but has always got over any temporarily problem.

Should we be surprised by this latest development? Not really, given the strong likelihood that AKB48 will be involved with the Opening Ceremony of the 2020 Olympic Games. The movers and shakers may want to remove any taint of obscenity ahead of its global showcase.

So far, we should stress, this is all just speculation on a few blogs, originating from a Nikkan Cyzo article. AKS, the company behind AKB48 and its various spin-off “sister” groups, has yet to make any official comment confirming or denying the rumor.

If you were upset by Sola Aoi’s sudden marriage announcement, don’t worry: you still have a chance to marry a Japanese AV idol.

Asuka Hoshino had a career between 2010 and 2014, and is now trying to build a post-AV career. Presumably things are not going too well for her, since she’s now turning to her fans to pay her directly.

Still, she’s offering something original: a marriage ceremony!

Yes, you can “marry” Asuka Hoshino just by paying a fee. She will participate in a fake ceremony that you and the 31-year-old former porn star will plan together with a genuine wedding planning company, Ambitious.

The happy couple will wear formal wedding attire and have an initial meeting to decide the details about the wedding, which is held in a venue in Odaiba.

Apparently Hoshino’s real father will be on hand to “give her away” on the day, which may be a bit awkward considering potentially how much a real fan may have masturbated while watching his daughter have sex.

It’s rare for us to take a look at Taiwan, so here’s a quick overview of a film from that oft unfairly overlooked island nation.

Directed by Adam Tsuei, The Tenants Downstairs (2016) is about, to quote IMDB, “a sadistic landlord manipulates the lives of his tenants through a network of surveillance cameras installed throughout the building.”

For readers with long memories, the premise is pretty similar to the early 1990s erotic thriller Sliver.

The Taiwanese film features nude scenes from Yu-Wei Shao (Ivy Shao) and Xing Li (Lu Fu Ling) as well as Lin Tzu Ning and Yu Pei Chen. There’s a decent number of sex scenes throughout, including a lesbian one.

It’s pretty dark and creepy in places, but the ladies are stunning.

We don’t pay enough attention to Taiwanese models and actresses, so here’s proof (perhaps) that they can be forward and sexy as hell. Any recommendations for movies or ladies in the comments, please!

Chikan is a chronic problem on public transport in Japan that doesn’t seem to be getting better any time soon. Despite the introduction of women-only carriages during rush hour and the display of posters and “shame stickers” warning offenders that groping is a crime, the number of men who do it never seems to decrease. If #MeToo was just about chikan, the number of tweets would likely break Twitter’s servers.

Kumi Sasaki says she was groped “nearly daily” on her commute to and from school in Japan. She was aged between 12 and 18.

Her first experience of chikan was on the crowded JR Yamanote Line in Tokyo.

The fingers of this unfamiliar hand went inside the collar of my blouse. Then he touched my back, he touched my legs, my waist, even my butt. He placed his hand directly under the cheeks, quietly raising up my skirt by just moving his fingers, and he touched my left thigh under my skirt.

Naturally, given her young age at the time, she didn’t really understand what was happening and went into shock — a fact surely exploited by the men involved.

She says the perpetrators of the groping were men aged from their late teens up to their seventies. One middle-aged man even followed her home and told her he wanted her to have his babies.

The trauma of the continual assaults led Sasaki to self-harm and attempted suicide. She is now in her mid-thirties but lives outside Japan.

Sasaki has written a book about her six years as a groping victim.

Today, Sasaki lives in Paris and her book was first published in French as Tschikan, co-written by Emmanuel Arnaud. We presume that an English-language and Japanese-language version will be released at some point.

While we support raising awareness of the issue to empower survivors and improve public awareness about tackling it, we do wonder if foreign-language publications like this risk serving as mere sexploitation, playing up to Western fantasies and myths about “kinky Japan.” Of course, we are always troubled by how much this blog is also contributing to that discourse!
